Hearing Aids at The Hearing Center

The Hearing Center is an independent hearing aid distributor; we don't have an exclusive arrangement with any particular hearing aid manufacturer. We carry a number of different brands of hearing aids. This lets us consider a patient's individual hearing needs and recommend whatever product we think will work best for them, regardless of brand. Having a brand-exclusive deal might save us money, but we don't think it would be nearly as helpful for our patients. And that's what matters most: what would be best for our patients like you.

We are always learning more about the new hearing aid technology on the market. Sometimes we have favorite brands — for example, we have always had good experiences with Signia, and right now we are particularly impressed with Oticon's Opn technology. But hearing aid manufacturers are always introducing more advanced devices, and what is game-changing right now might be replaced by something even better next year. Being an independent practice means we can offer our patients whichever hearing aid devices are the best choice at any given time.

Hearing Aid Styles

You may imagine that hearing aids are big and bulky, but that's not actually the case. We can show you demo units of the different sizes and shapes available so you can see for yourself just how small and discreet they are. You might be surprised just how lightweight, comfortable, and hard to notice they are! Different styles have different strengths, so it's a matter of choosing the right one for you.

The hearing aid styles we offer include invisible-in-the-canal (IIC), completely-in-the-canal (CIC), in-the-canal (ITC), in-the-ear (ITE), receiver-in-canal (RIC), and behind-the-ear (BTE). Of these, we find that most of our patients like the RIC the best. It's one of the least visible options out there, and it's incredibly versatile if you have more severe hearing loss or you want bluetooth connectivity, rechargeability, or other advanced technologies.

The Oticon Xceed and the Xceed Play are the most powerful hearing aids for adults and children with severe-to-profound hearing loss. This allows you to easily engage in conversations in different environments. The Best Hearing Aids for You

Your hearing loss is unique to you, and our recommendations for hearing aids will be personalized to you. A number of different considerations go into making our suggestion:

  • Your hearing baseline. How much hearing loss do you have, and how much amplification will you need?
  • Your speech discrimination. How much trouble are you having understanding what's being said to you?
  • Your comfort and dexterity. What size device will be easiest for you to control with your fingers?
  • Your activity level. Are you working in a fast-paced environment with lots of meetings, do you mostly spend time with friends and family in quiet environments, or is your life somewhere in between?

Based on these questions and more, we'll gain an understanding of what you need from your hearing aids. We try to always give you options. The choice to get hearing aids is up to you, and we won't ever pressure you into buying anything.

Oticon Opn S

We believe it is important to stay ahead of the latest trends and technology in the hearing industry so we can continue to provide our patients with the expert care they deserve. We recently attended a two-day training event with EarQ and Oticon in Denver, Colorado, where we learned about new ways we can offer you the best possible hearing healthcare experience.

We were also one of the first in our area to be trained on the newest Oticon technology, including the Opn S. The Opn S is different because it is the first device to deliver speech understanding on par with normal hearing. This means you can take a more active part in difficult listening situations and understand more with less effort.

Caring For Hearing Aids

Caring for hearing aids

Some of our patients, it's obvious they're not going to be able to do much with the hearing aids because of dexterity issues. Some of them are just not comfortable messing with them. So we kind of play it on a case-by-case basis. If you are comfortable cleaning your hearing aids at home, we'll show you how to clean them and change the filters. If not, you can bring them into the office and we will do it for you. It’s all based on your comfort level! We have a lot of people from nursing homes and they might just get someone to bring the hearing aids so they don't have to bring them themselves. Then we send the hearing aids to them.

Hearing Aid Lifespan

Hearing aids typically last 3 - 5 years; however, the often depends on the user. Around the 3–5 year mark, hearing devices start needing repairs more often, so that can be a good time to replace them. If your hearing has changed over that period of time, you might also need a different device. The most important thing to consider is that the technology has usually changed significantly in that timeframe, and you'll probably want to take advantage of what this new technology can do for you.
